2 students from city bag int’l awards in France

Bhubaneswar: Students from two separate city-based institutions secured individual prizes at the 47th WorldSkills competition in France’s Lyon late on Sunday. Amaresh Kumar Sahu, a student of the Central Tool Room and Training Centre ( CTTC ) in Bhubaneswar, won a bronze medal in the renewable energy category. Gedela Akhil, a student of a private city university, received a medallion of excellence in the water technology category.

Amaresh is currently pursuing a diploma in mechatronics, while Akhil is pursuing his BTech in civil engineering. The duo were congratulated by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi for their achievement on Monday. “The accomplishments of our skilled youth at the WorldSkills competition are a source of immense pride for Odisha .



Their success exemplifies the state’s commitment to nurturing young talent and developing skills that meet global standards,” said Majhi. He added that Odisha’s continued journey toward becoming a leader in skill development is progressing well, and these victories will inspire many others to strive for global excellence. The WorldSkills competition is the largest skills event in the world, bringing together participants from over 80 countries to compete across various sectors, including manufacturing, technology, and services.

The 47th edition of the competition, which took place between Sept 10 and 15, saw 15 out of 60 Indian participants from Odisha.
