On April 8, Hammond Police Department Narcotics Division, with the help of HPD Street Crimes Unit, arrested Virgil Harrell, 32, and Charles Trim Jr., 55, both of Hammond. Officers arrested Harrell after conducting a traffic stop and discovering that Harrell was in possession of marijuana and promethazine, police said, adding that Harrell had been a suspect in an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Upon learning of Harrell’s arrest, detectives secured a search warrant for Harrell’s residence on Stanley Street, where they found Trim, also a resident. The search warrant yielded multiple bags of marijuana, multiple bags of synthetic marijuana, multiple digital scales, a loaded firearm with extra ammunition, a bulletproof vest and a pipe used to smoke marijuana. Trim was placed under arrest and transported to Hammond City Jail, where he admitted to possession of the firearm and bulletproof vest, police said.

Trim was found to be a convicted felon for aggravated battery and armed robbery, for which he had served almost 20 years in prison. As a result of his convictions, Trim is prohibited from possessing a firearm or bulletproof vest. During the search, detectives also located evidence indicating that Harrell distributes both marijuana and synthetic marijuana.

Both Harrell and Trim were booked accordingly. If you have information on someone possessing and/or selling illegal narcotics or firearms, please contact Hammond Police Department Narcotics Division at 985-277-5700. HPD reminds the public that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
