Vadodara: Two women cricketers from Gujarat have been picked for the Indian team set to take on Australia in the one-day international (ODI) series in Brisbane and Perth in Dec. Yastika Bhatia and Radha Yadav from the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) will be part of the Indian squad. Both Bhatia and Yadav have become regular members of the Indian team.
"They both have been performing consistently. It's a proud moment for the BCA as its two cricketers are playing a key role in the Indian team," said a BCA official. A left-arm spinner, Yadav is a good fielder and promising with the bat, too.
She moved from the Mumbai team to Baroda Cricket Association in 2014-15 and soon won a spot in the Baroda squad. The good training facilities in Vadodara played a key role, further boosting her prospects. In 2017, she became the first woman cricketer from Gujarat to be picked for the Indian T20 team.
Bhatia, a wicket-keeper batter, also performed well at the domestic level and was even made captain of the Baroda Under-23 team. She proved her mettle by scoring consistently, following which Bhatia was first picked in the World Cup squad in 2022. India will be playing three ODIs in Australia – two in Brisbane and one in Perth.
