*Warning: Contains spoilers for the season two finale of 1923 * A 1923 star said she was "absolutely" surprised when she read her script and discovered that her character would survive the Season 2 finale . The second prequel series to Taylor Sheridan's hit Yellowstone has come to a heartbreaking end , with fans left in tears after watching the intense finale that was filled with multiple character deaths. In the episode, it emerged that sadly, Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) and Alex (Julia Schlaepfer) will not be getting their happy ending.
In tragic scenes, the pair reunite when Alex is suffering from frostbite, with her later dying from her injuries after giving birth to their son. Fans also learn that their baby is John Dutton II, making them the grandparents of John Dutton III ( Kevin Costner ). Now Aminah Nieves, who plays the young Teonna Rainwater in the series, has recalled her initial reaction to the final script in regards to the fact that her character survived the finale.
The 27-year-old actress, from Hammond, Indiana, admitted she was astonished but said she knew that Teonna "can't die" as she as "so much still within her." When asked by Deadline whether she was a little surprised by the outcome, she said, "Absolutely. 100%," before adding, "But the thinker in me was like, well, she can't die.
She has to carry on life. But she leaves with nothing. She has so much still within her, but essentially she has no one.
She's on her own. She's 16." She also addressed the night Teonna shot the priest and said her "primal" scream was "just an uproot of everything that has happened up until that point, not even within my lifetime, but from many lifetimes ago.
" She said, "It was visceral. It was everything blended together. I can't explain it.
I could just sit there and feel it and I did. And even talking about it now, I get a little emotional. "You kind of black out as an actor a little bit, especially with things that are so tied to who you are as a person.
So yeah, I think that was very much rooted in what had just happened with someone so close to me, the realities of it, as well as for my family who lost some of their own culture because of all of this assimilation." Aminah added, "As a matriarchal woman, it's my duty to try to remember as much as I can and to try to carry on all of these teachings and wisdom, not only for the youth who I currently have in my life, but to the future generations to come. That scream also comes from fear of what's to come, but it also comes from a place of strength.
" In February, Helen Mirren, who plays Cara Dutton, said she enjoyed working on the series - especially thanks to her co-star Harrison Ford (Jacob Dutton). And he said she wouldn't hesitate to sign up for another role if it means working with the actor again. She shared, "Well, if any other job came my way where I got to work with Harrison, I would say yes in a nanosecond.
If it happens to be an extension of this story, absolutely. As long as Harrison is in it, I'll be there." As of now, there's no official confirmation of a third season for 1923.
However, actor Brandon Sklenar, who plays Spencer Dutton, hinted that there might be more to the 1923-era Dutton story. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the season two finale, he said, "It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever read in my life, truly." Paramount+ has not yet confirmed whether the second season will be the last for 1923.
Initially, the show was pitched as a two-season story, but Brandon added, "They haven't confirmed if it's stopping here at season two, but I knew before we left to shoot season one ultimately where this was going." He further revealed that while he didn't know the specifics, director Taylor had given him an idea of how the story would wrap up at the end of season two. "This story is going to continue one way or another, and I honestly don't know.
