17-year-old steals truck, dies after crashing it near Shirur

1 2 Pune: A 17-year-old youth from Shirur taluka died after he stole a truck parked near an agri-products company in Tandli village about 70km from Pune, drove it and then collided head-on with another truck early on Friday. The driver of the other truck suffered minor injuries. The Shirur police registered a case against the minor driver.

A search is on for his accomplice who is on the run, police said. Sanjay More (48) of Kashti in Ahilyanagar, the owner of the stolen truck, has lodged a complaint with the police. An officer from the Shirur police told TOI that on Thursday night, the complainant had parked his truck near the company for loading.



"In the early hours of Friday, his son's friend contacted the former and informed him about the accident near Tandli on Kashti-Nhavare road. When the complainant arrived at the spot, he found that his truck had collided with another," the officer said. The complainant was then told that the person driving his truck was taken to a hospital at Nhavare, while the driver of the other truck was taken to a medical facility in Daund.

"The complainant checked the CCTV footage from the company and found that two men had stolen his truck. One of them drove away with the truck, while his accomplice left the spot. We have ascertained the identity of the deceased driver and his accomplice.
