Gujar khan - As many as, 157 Afghan nationals, who had been detained from various areas of Jhelum district, were sent to the Torkham border for deportation to Afghanistan on Saturday night. According to Jhelum’s Deputy Commissioner, Meesam Abbas, over 305 Afghan nationals residing illegally were apprehended by local authorities and placed in specially designated transit camps. Jhelum’s District Police Officer, Tariq Aziz Sindhu, stated that these individuals were treated with respect and were provided with bedding, food, and juices, under the supervision of female police officers.
After their records were verified by NADRA, 157 individuals were transported in two buses from the transit camps at Jhelum and Pind Dadan Khan to the Torkham border, with police staff, including women officers, accompanying them. Deputy commissioner also mentioned that an additional 148 Afghan nationals would be sent to the border in the coming days.
