BINTULU (Jan 23): A total of 1,500 units of solar lights will be installed in the Jepak constituency, announced Iskandar Turkee. The Jepak assemblyman said the project is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2025, with the first phase focusing on critical areas.

He said this after chairing a special meeting with the Bintulu Public Works Department (JKR) and the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) on Tuesday to discuss the preparation for the installation of these solar lights. The project, according to him, will prioritise strategic areas that need illumination to enhance safety, such as main roads, pedestrian walkways, village roads, public areas, and recreational spots. “With the BDA’s cooperation, the planning emphasises balanced urban and rural development, ensuring all residents will benefit from this project.

“The installation of these solar lights aligns with the Sarawak government’s efforts towards sustainable development, while also supporting the use of renewable energy. “The cooperation between JKR, BDA, and the Jepak Public Service Office will ensure the project is carried out smoothly and meets the targets,” he said, emphasising the long-term cooperation between the relevant parties to ensure the solar lights function properly. This project, he added, reflects the commitment of the state government and local authorities to community welfare and green development.
