Pune: A 15-year-old Class IX student sustained an injury to his neck after he was attacked with a broken piece of glass by a Class VIII student (14) in a classroom at a private English medium school in Manjari around 2.30pm on Tuesday. Preliminary investigations revealed the two students had some differences during the school's annual day celebration which led to the attack.
Hadapsar police said the injured teenager, whose father is a contractor, is undergoing treatment at a hospital. His condition was reported by the doctors as stable. A case of attempted murder has been filed against the teenage assailant, who is the son of an autorickshaw driver.
"We detained and produced the assailant before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent him to an observation home for boys," senior inspector Santosh Pandhare of the Hadapsar police told TOI. Pandhare said, "The two boys were friends till recently. In fact, the younger teen had shared his family details and personal problems with the victim a few days ago thinking that the latter would keep the same to himself.
However, the victim shared his issues with other students and they started to make fun of his problems and would often comment on the same." "The younger boy did not like it and decided to teach the victim a lesson. He picked up a broken piece of glass on the school premises and went to the classroom where the victim was chatting with his friends during recess.
He grabbed the victim and stabbed him in the neck. There was blood everywhere in the classroom," the officer said. The school authorities raised an alarm and took the victim to a nearby hospital, Pandhare added.
