A 1.36 hectare Battery Energy Storage System looks set to be built at a solar farm. Hollygreen Energy farm want to site 48 battery storage containers at Sutton Bridge Solar far, south of Centenary Way.

Plans also include a control room, LV substation, switch room, spares containers, fencing, CCTV containers, water containers and an access road. South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee will meet today (Wednesday April 2) to give their verdict on the proposals, with officers recommending the scheme be approved. A BESS will store electrical energy when productivity is high for later use.



“The site is located approximately 2k south east of the village of Sutton Bridge, east of the River Nene and south of Sutton Bridge Power Station,” the officer’s report reads. “The site is consented within the consented Sutton Bridge Solar Farm, and is operational. “The site boundary covers and area of approximately 1.

36 hectares, described as having low-lying and flat topography of between approximately 2m and 4m above ordnance datum. “The site is currently vacant grassland.” The application has received support from Sutton Bridge Parish Council while a representation from a member of the public said they were ‘concerned about the noise, and congestion’.

The officer’s report concluded: “There are no significant factors in this case that indicate against the proposal.”.
