12 Cork cafes to stay open late with free events from live music to comedy nights

Coffee shops are taking part in a new night-time project to keep Cork cafe culture alive after dark

Twelve independent coffee shops in Cork city are staying open late for a range of free events next week, with some of the city's favourite cafes taking part. It's part of the new Coffee House Lates initiative from the Cork Business Association - encouraging coffee shops to stay open into the night to serve as vibrant alcohol-free alternatives to pubs and keep cafe culture alive after dark. Events next week include live music, art exhibitions, a craft fair and lots of free coffee.

Here are the cafes taking part: Old Town Taqueria Café - 5pm-1am, Friday 29th November The Old Town Taqueria Café on Pembroke Street is making its grand debut with a grand opening features plenty of Mahers coffee, Mexican snacks, and complimentary churros and light bites. Nádúr Deli - 6pm-9pm Thursday 28th November Nádúr Deli is on the plaza of Nano Nagle Place. For one special evening, they’re staying open late to host a festive experience with live jazz music from Jonathon Murray, a ferments demo from Ivo from Terra Ignis and complementary spiced mulled apple.



Cafe Moly - 6-9pm Thursday 28th November Cafe Moly is a loved speciality coffee micro-roastery and cafe on Douglas Street. They are doing a special taster night of coffees from around the world. Each customer will be treated to four complimentary taster cups.

Filter - 6-9pm Thursday 28th November Filter Espresso and Brew Bar on George’s Quay will launch a new art exhibition with Silvo Severino, a South Brazilian living in Cork who specialises in collage work. Severino’s work recently featured on the brochure cover of the Cork Film Festival. And there'll be free mini pastries.

Greenwich - 6-9pm. Thursday 28th November Greenwich on Caroline Street is hosting a knitting night with Stolen Stitches for both knitting newbies and a seasoned stitchers. The free event includes a complimentary coffee or tea and a selection of treats.

115 Café - 8-11pm, Thursday 28th and Friday 29th November 115 Cafe on Oliver Plunkett Street will have a renowned open-stage jazz jam on the Thursday and a free Cork Comedy Showcase on the Friday night. Lough Café - 6-9pm, Thursday 28th November The Lough Café is hosting a gorgeous Christmas craft fair in aid of Cork Penny Dinners with some unique local gifts from Cork artists and creatives Duke’s - 6pm-9pm Thursday 28th November The family-owned Dukes Coffee Company on Carey’s Lane will have l ive music from Mike O Riordan and free festive pastries The Lee Café - 6-9pm, Thursday Nov 28th The Lee Cafe on Wellington Bridge is hosting a choral night with Cór Blath Oraiste choral group. Plugd - 6-9pm, Friday 29th November Plugd Records on Cornmarket Street will be giving out samples of unique, high-quality non-alcoholic beverages.

Brian O’Connor of Brian’s Wines will be serving complimentary tastings of refreshing Kefir and Kombucha from My Goodness. Butter Bubble Café - 6-9pm, Thursday 28th & Friday 29th November Customers at Butter Bubble on Oliver Plunkett Street will be treated to complimentary Christmas marshmallow pops and gingerbread cookies with every purchase..
