Community centres in Kilkenny have been awarded €105,353 in funding to support upgrade and refurbishment works. The funding has been welcomed by local representatives. In Kilkenny the funds go to Ionad Dara Goresbridge - €21,257 Johnswell Community Development - €22,800 Stoneyford Development Association - €19,803 Twilight Community Group - €25,000 Windgap Community Development Company - €16,493 The Community Centres Investment Fund 2024 was launched in June 2024 to provide investment for upgrade and refurbishments works on existing community centres.
Welcoming the announcement, general election candidate and Cllr. Michael Doyle said this funding "will really benefit community centres in Kilkenny, which are used by the whole community here.” “Whether it’s Irish dancing lessons for children or art classes for our retired people, our community centres in Kilkenny have always been a central point in every town and village for people to come together, learn a new skill, practice a hobby or just socialise with others.
“Today’s funding is all about giving our communities a helping hand and making our towns and villages better places to live, work and raise a family. I would also like to thank all our volunteers who work so hard to keep the lights on and facilitate activities in our local community centres – their work is never taken for granted,” Cllr. Doyle said.
The funding has also been welcomed by Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick, who said it is important for community groups who do 'Trojan work.' The community halls are used extensively for local projects, he added, saying "it's great to see them get much needed funding.".
