Investigators are offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 36-year-old man riding an e-bike in Clairemont on Saturday. The crash was reported around 1:30 a.m.
when the e-biker was struck from behind by a sedan traveling west on Balboa Avenue near Interstate 805, investigators said. The sedan did not stop and drove away, leaving scattered car debris — including parts from the right-side mirror, bumper and lower front grill — at the scene, police said. Paramedics arrived and took the e-biker to a hospital, where he died.
His name has not yet been released. Investigators said that the car parts left at the crash site helped them determine that the vehicle involved in the crash was a gray two-door or four-door Mercedes E-Class. Police said that the windshield may have also been damaged.
Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information that helps police identify the vehicle and driver, investigators said. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department’s traffic division at (858) 573-5002 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477..
