Times News Network Ludhiana: Having set their sights on a lot of 100 electric buses, the civic body officials have completed the process of estimates for the civil structures of two bus depots, required electrical work (connections) and works related with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and have submitted the report to the govt of India. Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) officials claimed that among the selected cities for the e-buses, the MCL is the first one to complete these formalities and “now it is up to the GOI when the latter sends the buses to the civic body”. In 2023, the city was selected under PM E Bus Sewa Yojna and since then, the civic officials have been preparing the estimates.
The MC had selected two sites for establishing the bus depots — one at Ghora Road and the other at Hambran Road. The civil work for Ghora Road will cost Rs 12.56 crore while four megavolt-amperes (MVA) connections have been demanded and PWD has estimated it at Rs 2.
25 crore. However, the PSPCL will further connect it with a feeder and it will cost Rs 62.89 lakh.
For Hambran Road depot, the civil work will cost Rs 6.01 crore and two MVA connections will cost Rs 1.58 crore while PSPCL has estimated their part of work at Rs 1.
22 crore. Out of these, for civil work 50 per cent cost will be borne by the GOI while the remaining 50 per cent will go to the MC kitty. But for other works, all the cost will be borne by the GOI.
Superintending engineer of MC Sanjay Kanwar said, “The technical estimates are with the GOI. We are now waiting for the Centre to give a go-ahead. Apart from depots, electricity charging options will be made so that drivers could charge the buses if required.
” Along with Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala have also been selected under this scheme in Punjab. Earlier, the MCL demanded only mini buses but now some big buses will be allotted.
