Bengaluru: City’s unrelenting growth is taking a toll on its infrastructure, Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, MB Patil, said during the Global AI Conclave hosted by CNBC TV18 and Moneycontrol on November 22. The minister talked about the city’s unique appeal, noting its popularity among migrants from across the country and even expats. “If 100 people come to Bengaluru, only five leave,” Patil said, shedding light on the significant migration into the tech capital.

He added, “Bengaluru is not just home to Bengalureans. People from Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, northern India, and even other countries come here for education and work. However, there’s very little reverse migration, which puts immense pressure on our infrastructure.

” Traffic and Rain WoesThe city’s infrastructure challenges, particularly traffic congestion and flooding during heavy rains, were central to Patil’s address. These issues have caused significant disruptions this year, prompting debates about the city’s ability to cope with its rapid growth. While Bengaluru remains a magnet for talent and opportunities, the constant influx has stretched its resources thin.

“The growing population demands comprehensive solutions to meet the needs of not just locals but also the many new residents,” Patil said. Local Reservations in FocusThe minister also touched on the contentious issue of reservation policies for locals in the city. Although he did not elaborate on specific measures, the issue remains a sensitive one, as Bengaluru strives to balance its cosmopolitan identity with the demands of its native population.
