Vadodara: Ten persons were arrested by Navapura police here over the alleged disturbance during a drive to remove encroachments on Friday. Personnel of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) were allegedly assaulted during the drive. VMC and city police carried out a major drive to remove encroachments in Navapura and its surrounding areas.
Handcarts, cabins and other material were seized and put on trucks by VMC personnel. They faced resistance in Mehboobpura, where VMC workers were allegedly manhandled and one of them was slapped. A seized handcart was taken off a truck and the mob tried to haul it away.
Police ensured that the mob was dispersed, and the cart was put back on the truck. A complaint was registered at Navapura police station over the incident. Ten people were arrested in connection with the offence, nine residents of Mehboobpura and one person from Khatkiwad.
